2023 Scholarship Recipients

We have awarded three 仙人掌视频/AAS Scholarships to college students for the 2023-2024 academic year. By offering these scholarships to eligible undergraduate and graduate students, we hope to positively contribute to the future of environmental health. The scholarship program aims to encourage early commitment by students to pursue a career in environmental health.

Undergraduate Awards

The 2023 Dr. Sheila Davidson Pressley Scholarship was awarded to Mitchell Kutz.

Mitchell Kutz is from Dalton, Ohio. He is a junior at the University of Findlay pursuing a degree in Environment, Health, Safety, and Sustainability. Some of his hobbies include hiking, biking, and reading. 

 

The 2023 Dr. Carolyn Hester Harvey Scholarship was awarded to Pilar Santos.

Pilar Santos will be graduating from Montana State University in the Fall of 2023 with a major in Microbiology - Environmental Health and a minor in Global Health. In 2022, Pilar was awarded the Student Research Competition undergrad winner of the AEHAP scholarship in water quality research for Montana Watersheds. She interned with the Montana Department of Environmental Quality in the summer of 2022. Pilar also has certifications as a nursing assistant and as an EMT. Most recently, Pilar obtained a scuba diving certification as a part of her volunteer work with the GIVE program in Thailand and Laos; working in coral restoration, English education, and permaculture.

Graduate Award 

The 2023 Graduate Scholarship recipient is Karin Kasper, REHS.

Karin Kasper is the Food and School Division Manager at Franklin County Public Health. She received her bachelor's degree in environmental health science from Ohio University and is currently enrolled at Kent State University for a Master of Public Health-Health Policy and Management. Karin created the Food Safety Manual to be used in the field to assist with food safety education for non-English speaking and English as a second language operators. It has been translated to Spanish, Nepali, Amharic, Arabic, and Chinese, and will be expanded to six more languages. You can find it on Food Safety page.
